Course Description:

§  Welcome to Woodwork 9.  This is an introductory woodworking course.  This is primarily a “hands on” course where you will learn basic shop safety, general shop procedures, design & dimensioning, and the use of all hand and power tools in the woodshop.  Upon successful completion of Woodwork 9 students will be able to safely use general hand tools, and woodworking power tools. 
§  Students will quickly build their woodworking skills while they accomplish the construction of a hat rack, unique cutting board, small storage box, stepping stool, scroll saw project, mallet, bowl, mantle clock and if time allows a personal project.

Course Description:

§  Welcome to Woodwork 10/11/12.  There are a wide variety of experience levels among the students in these courses.  There are students with advanced skills who have previously completed woodworking courses and there are inexperienced students who are enrolled in their first woodworking course.  The focus of this course is advanced cabinet making, furniture making and millwork.  Students are expected to advance their knowledge in the use and operations of the tools and machines in the shop.  For the less experienced students there will be a focus on basic machine tool skills and fabrication of small furniture items.  For the experienced students there will be a focus on designing and producing large cabinets and mill work items.   This is primarily a “hands on” course where you will learn shop safety, shop procedures, design & dimensioning, stock selection, pricing and the use of all hand and power tools in the woodshop. 
§  Students will quickly build and develop their woodworking skills while they accomplish the construction of a unique piece of furniture.

§  Students are responsible to choose their own projects after the initial contract/warm up project
§  All student projects must be paid up-front before construction begins
§  All project design ideas must be discussed with your instructor during the planning stage
§  All projects must be completed before the end of the semester unless otherwise discussed
§  There will be “open shop” after school hrs
§  Students that do not have specific projects in mind for their own use or who have other concerns about building projects for their own are encouraged to discuss this with their instructor.  These projects will be financed by external clients.
